Here are questions parents ask when determining if their child needs a reading tutor.
My child has trouble reading or decoding words, and is struggling in school. Should I find a good tutor to help him?
Is there a good reading program to help my student excel in school?
Reading is a real problem for my daughter. She can’t sound out a lot of words while she reads. Should I be concerned?
My son is in the 2nd grade. I have always read to him and he likes it. Lately I have noticed that when he reads to me I have to correct him several times in every sentence! Can this become a bigger problem later?
If you answered yes to one or more of these questions then you are in the right place. Our reading programs give students tools, rules, and strategies to greatly improve their reading and literacy. Students become comfortable with reading words by using easy-to-learn decoding skills.
Our InterVention Reading Program is the most popular for students needing remedial support with more than knowing individual letter sounds. Students are taught missing sound patterns and word decoding skills. Part of a word decoding strategy is teaching students the meanings of prefixes and suffixes. Learning the meaning of theses affixes helps your student better understand grammar and verb usage.
Within the reading and writing process, we believe vocabulary is an important factor to good grammar. Every reading unit is designed to increase your student’s vocabulary and grammar!
“Before and after” videos of TJ’s reading process
The two videos below show a “before and after” learning process for one of our students that completed our level 2 reading program. TJ is a typical 1st grader in the first video at the beginning of tutoring. He is decoding words using the decoding strategies his tutor has taught him. Notice TJ’s behavior and his decoding evolve as he is guided through the exercise by his tutor.
In the second video TJ is presented with a small reader he has never read before. The reader is a fairy tale from Ireland called The Farmer and the Leprechaun. TJ is allowed to read at his own pace and really look at the pictures as he reads. Notice TJ is relaxed and focused as he reads the story. Most importantly, you can see that TJ has matured and gained a lot of confidence!
